Taibi: ‘ Too many leaders in the squad’

Before the start of Friday's training session, veteran reserve goalkeeper Massimo Taibi met the reporters at the Centro Sisport and analyzed Toro's difficult moment.

Massimo, why did you choose to stay despite the arrival of Abbiati?

They told me that Toro needed two good goalkeepers, so here I am...

Is it hard to know that you always start as a reserve?

It's hard to stay on the bench, but as long as I like playing soccer I'll keep on working hard, just as if I had to play every match. When that enthusiasm will disappear, I'll stop.

Abbiati had a very difficult start to the season...

Christian is a professional, he's experienced and he's very strong mentally: he's aware that moments like this can happen during a season. I know how it feels, you ask yourself a thousand questions, but what's really important, more than encouraging words or pats on your back, is to watch your teammates in the eyes and feel that everyone is on the same side.

What's your opinion about Toro's difficult moment?

We had a really bad start, I didn't expect that, although with a bit of luck we could have collected a few more points. Anyway, Serie A and Serie B are totally different and Toro isn't a small team, the tradition says that we must be back among the top teams, which is what President Cairo plans to do within a few years.

How did you feel when De Biasi was fired?

Very bad, especially under the human aspect. I had a special relation with Gianni De Biasi: however the quality remained the same, as Zaccheroni is a great coach as well.

The negative results are conditioning the project?

Our goal this season is the save, possibly by rediscovering the same fighting spirit that allowed us to accomplish that feat a few months ago, and then we'll start thinking about more ambitious goals.

What do Toro miss nowadays? Head, legs or character?

More than legs, we need the teamwork. That's the same problem we had last season when all of those new players joined us in January: when we'll solve that, the results will come.

Maybe Toro miss a leader?

On the contrary, maybe there are too many leaders...
